How to Become a Teacher in California

Let me first give you a brief overview of who I am. I was a public school teacher from the Philippines. I taught since 2002, started from being a tutor and substitute teacher to becoming a public school teacher.
When I  came in here last 2011, of course I do really want to become a teacher, that's my goal but finding answers on how to become a teacher in America was quite difficult for me at first. So I am hoping that this blog can somehow help someone out there. This is for those who are already here in California or will be here as an immigrant. This may not help if you're looking for a working visa and you are still residing in the Philippines.

Make sure you are authorized to work
If you live in the US, you need to apply for Employment Authorization. This is the U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website. Go ahead and explore which ones relate to you

Go to the County of Education or School District Near You
I really think that if you want to become a teacher, then the first thing to do is find information from the County of Education near you. Based on my experience, I did went, asked for an appointment, waited in line, but I never got an appointment or never got help. Well the secretary, was really nice and told me, I needed to set up an an appointment with the credential analyst but I had no luck and they never got back to me. If you have the same experience as I am then no worries because there are other county of Education that can help you even if you are in a different county. A very helpful County of Education is the Santa Clara County of Education. I called the phone number and the credential analyst called me back in two days. I went to the Santa Clara County Office of Education without an appointment on a weekday. There's three credential analyst that are willing to help you. I got a number and I got called to be helped in less than two minutes.
I had my original sealed transcript of records from the Philippines, transcripts of the units I took here in California and the questions that I will ask the Credential analyst.
Make sure you know the questions to ask and what path you want to take. It is easier to help you out if you know what your goal is, to teach preschool, elementary, middle school or high school. You also need to know what class you want to teach, General Ed. or Special Ed. Also the kind of credential you would like to get, Single Subject or  Multiple Subject. It is just easier for them to answer your questions and guide you if you are clear with what you really want to be.

I

Websites to read about "Becoming a Teacher in California"
1. Teach California
This website helped me a lot, as it gives lots of information about how to apply for a credential. If you are prepared outside of California then you have to register to the site so that you can "Make and Follow your Personal Career Plan" or read about how to apply for a credential if you were a teacher from a different country.
2. Commission on Teacher Credentialing
Make sure you click about Outside the United States Prepared and read about what suits you. Like with me, my major in Home Economics from the Philippines. So it means, I read about how to apply for a preliminary teaching credential in Home Economics. I also read about becoming a Special Education teacher because I want to become one.
General Education Teaching Credentials
         Single Subject Teaching Credential
          Multiple Subject Credential

3. EDJOIN
This website is very helpful to finding a job or getting into the education system. If you are like me who want to just explore the education system in here, observe and get paid at the same time then this is the job site for you. You may start as a substitute Paraprofessional or Instructional Assistant or any classified jobs. Classified jobs are the jobs you may apply for that doesn't need a credential. You may do this while working on your teaching credential. If you would like to be a Special Education Teacher someday and doesn't have that credential but you have a Bachelors Degree, then I would suggest becoming a Paraprofessional. I was able to use my Bachelors Degree, and three years experience of working in a Special Education Program to comply with the requirements as a Special Education Teacher on a Short Term Staff Permit

Find a job that you love and you will never have to work for a lifetime.

What worked with me: I worked as substitute Paraprofessional for 4 days and I got hired on the fifth day. I worked in an RSP Mild/Moderate class so I pushed in to Middle School Gen. Ed. Classroom. From there I was able to observe different teachers and worked with different students. I learned the difference between teaching from the Philippines and Education here.  Since my major is Home Economics and there's really no opening for it, so going into different classes helped me determine the subject I am interested teaching. After 3 years of working as a Paraprofessional, I decided to subteach and it also helped me decide on what kind of Educator I would like to work on.
I chose to become a Special Education Teacher and I will soon write down something about how I became one.

Goodluck, and Hopefully some of you will become a Certified Educator like me.

PCH Online Game

I just want to write about the PCH online games. So I saw the ad on TV and online about PCH online games. I am not in any way affiliated to it, but I am one of those that got addicted and hopes to win money by playing. I started last March 2017 and I religiously played it, because I do really want to become a millionaire. Well, why not? I am a public school teacher and I need to go back to school to continue working. I felt that if I have enough money to go to school, or have enough money if I lose my job, then it would be so nice because I wouldn't have to worry about money.
I just started playing and I haven't won anything yet but I will surely let you know if I do, so that you may be as lucky as I am, Hopefully :P.
First Step: Join PCH
Okay so the first step I did was go to the Publisher clearing house website. Again, I am not going to get any money by you clicking the link or joining because I haven't won anything yet too.
Second Step: Install pch on your tablet or android phone
So you don't really have to do this, it is just that, the more you play, the more chances of winning. Well, I said this because there are millions of people playing and if they have a million entries to win, how could you win with one, well if you are lucky, clap! clap!
Third Step: Explore the website
There are so many games to play that I would be playing the whole day and will be done with all of it for a few hours then some of the games open again. I want to win 7,000 a week for life, who wouldn't?. I don't know if I would but I'll keep on hoping and playing.

Be Careful
Ads: Be careful clicking the ads because sometimes it leads to malicious software, like it'll tell you that you have virus on your phone, so just close the tab and don't follow it especially if you have virus protection on your phone or computer, then you're safer.
Be careful filling in surveys or buying products with a discounted price. The first one I bought is Keranique Hair Regrowth system.  I'll write a post about it later but to make long story short, I got the product for $4.26 but I have to cancel it immediately because they will charge me a full amount of $86.15 in May 2017 and another $86.14 in June 2017. I wanted to keep the product and not return it so I had to pay 50% of the amount due which is 79.95. So I still have to pay for the product, but I don't want to return it, I just don't want to be continuously charged until I find that it does really work. You can try it, just click the link above although I can't tell any review yet because I just started using it today. Well, it didn't make my hair soft after using it, but I'm hoping for hair regrowth.
It also say's that buying a product will not increase your chances of winning.
Just click skip after watching the ads because that's how they get money for the prizes.

Reminders!!!!
Please do play responsibly, as this may consume you're life. It can be very addicting but I have read about people playing for years but still haven't won anything. There are real people winning, so I am just hoping it'll be me next time.

So in this picture, you can see the whole PCH website. It shows that I have a sapphire status because the amount of tokens I gained from playing. It also shows the games to play, the people they said already won and more ads.

Win $500,000.00 toward your dream home!
Who wouldn't want this? So yes, I am still playing hopefully I would be the real person to win! haha keep dreaming HaPinay!

One of the games I'm playing! Well, instead of scrolling facebook, looking at people's lives and making myself jealous ahahaha kidding aside, I just want to play and maybe win, who knows :P .

Thank you wheel!!!
As of this writing, I just got this Thank you wheel spins to win more tokens.  I tried playing the whole day and got lots of tokens, I still was in the 50th spot of the token leaderboard, too make it short, I didn't win any money, darn it! How did all those people do it? The highest tokens I got was around 137,000 and the ones who won got almost 300,000 tokens, wow!!!! I won't win the 100 dollars :(.

Good luck!

The Dishwasher

Today we visited Isabella's grandparents. She had fun with the grandparents. When it was time for her dad to pick us up, her dada (that's what she calls her dad) was having conversation with the grandparents.
Of course at this time no one was really paying too close attention to Isabella, because we can see her busy playing and was even sweeping the floor with a broom.
Suddenly, her grandma heard a loud sound, and she was asking what that is. Grandpa thought it was just the water outside but then we were, "ohhhh, the dish washers!!!!"
Grandma had to run to the dish washer because they use it to store some plastic containers that aren't suppose to be washed in the dishwasher. (Trivia: if you aren't using your dishwasher, then, there you go, a storage for you)
She had to pull out the plastic containers and then drain the water from the dishwasher. The dishwasher they had has buttons to turn and it was easy for her to do.

Say Sorry
I asked my 21 months old toddler to say sorry and she did. Her grandpa hugged her and told her it was fine.

Keep on guiding and explaining to her even if she is young
She knew she did something wrong, and we were explaining to her that she shouldn't touch the dishwasher. She didn't touch it again but then again, everyone was keeping an eye on her so she knows she is being watched and she knows what she isn't allowed to do.

Dishwasher at Home
The dishwasher we have at home has flat controls so she hasn't really figured out how to start it.

Advice
My advice to parents who have toddlers that plays with the dishwashers whether it has flat controls or buttons is that to always watch and guide your kids. When I am in the kitchen with her and she is playing on the floor. We as parents learned how to multitask, but having our kids as the most important task. Even if I am washing the dishes, I made sure she knows that I am still watching her, every time I see her trying to touch the flat control of our washer, I would never get tired explaining to her that she shouldn't be playing with it.
There are other appliances in the kitchen that has button controls, like the trash compactor. I decided to take out the buttons because she would always run it. She likes how it makes the sound. Yes we still make sure to tell her that she wasn't supposed to touch it, but it is easier to pull the button and then put it back every Tuesday when we need it. (trash day every Wednesday)
We have button control for our burner which she can already reached. But we made sure that every time she sees us using the controls, or using the stove, we always remind her that only dada and mama can touch it. We always tell her that it is dangerous and it is not for Isabella then I would show her the things she can only touch in the kitchen.

Play station in the kitchen
She also has a play station in the kitchen, just a little box with some toys in it. In this way, we can drive her attention to her toys instead of playing with the kitchen tools or materials that she isn't suppose to touch.

Toilet Paper Everywhere

Last night, I decided to take a shower even if Isabella was still awake. I figured I can already trust her because her dad can keep an eye on her, and she is really good at listening :) Okay, yes she is good at listening but she would still do what she would like to do when no one is watching her.
And so I hopped into the shower and then I knew she was quietly playing outside the shower room. Then she told me, "Mama, no mess!! No! No! No! Bella." I'd say uh oh, there we go.
Shower, done woohooo! I opened the door and oh m g!!!

My daughter doesn't want to go home

Today I dropped my daughter off to her daycare. I was thinking of doing a lot of things inside the house because we went on a weekend trip. I realized that cleaning is a never ending task I had to do everyday. I feel like I could never be satisfied on how clean the house looked, so I decided to just drop the broom and relax.
When I picked her up, she doesn't want to go home. She was crying and screaming. She still wants to play with this toy car that they have at daycare. She doesn't have one at home yet so I guess that is why she likes it. She told me she wants to ride the car.
Aside from the toy car, they also have this little houses and the friends to play with at daycare. It is a small daycare, a garage turned into a daycare. Even though it's a small daycare, I like it because the smaller it is, the safer I feel for my child. There's not a lot of kids and I can easily talked to the daycare provider and the ladies at her daycare.

Let's Play the Number Game (Numbers 1 to 10)

 Let's Play the Number Game
Isabella Nalani just turned 21 months old and I am really happy that finally, we were able to take a video of her recognizing numbers 1 to 10.
In this game, I used old cd's (which we are actually using as saucers) and then I wrote numbers on it and letters at the back of it. We have been playing this game for 5 months now. So I started making this numbered cd's when she was 16 months, but I was already teaching her since she was younger. It doesn't matter to me if she doesn't understand them. So it means, I was reading and teaching her since she was inside my tummy and until now, I am still teaching her and yes, I will never get tired being her teacher. (clap, clap)

Watch the video here. Please don't forget to like and share the video too. Subscribe my friends. :)

When she was 8 months old, my friend, whom she called Tia Zonia, would count to her to her in spanish and english. She would use the lids of our used containers from our kitchen.

After that, I also decided to write numbers on it, and she has been playing with those lids since then.

So my advice to new parents like me, is to never get tired of helping your kids learn. Read to them even if they don't understand, and count with them, even if they can't count.
It is all worth it!!! We are so happy even with simple things like, when she sees numbers on the floor, and she'll pick it up and give it to us. She would then tell us what number it is. She can only recognize numbers and letters everytime she sees them.
And yes, letters and numbers is everywhere in the house, we have them in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, name it, we got it.
Sesame Street place mats, old cd's with numbers and letters written on them
